More than 50 people participated in the inaugural Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association Adult Prom fundraiser aboard the Hiawatha Paddleboat near Williamsport on June 9, 2023, despite cold and rainy weather. "The event was very nice," said Casey Magargle, of Turbotville. "The music was fabulous, great atmosphere. The weather could have been a little better, but you cannot help that. There was a nice diverse mix of people." The amount of people turned out to be ideal, according to Craig Miller, of Mifflinburg, due to the weather keeping people mostly in the climate-controlled lower level of the boat.
"It would have been cramped down there with too many more people," he said. "It worked out well and the price was definitely right for the event." The Adult Prom's theme was the Roaring 20s with Karen Meeks and the Blue River Soul band providing live music. The event was planned and carried through by Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association Board President Marissa Crames, who is excitedly working toward another adult prom in 2024. "The Roaring Twenties Adult Prom on the Hiawatha was nothing short of a complete success. We were able to engage with new people while creating an unforgettable night of music and dancing on the river," she said. "We are all looking forward to doing it again with a new theme next year. Who's ready for a Sock Hop on the Susquehanna in 2024?" Some photos from the evening:
