Our Environmental Education Leadership for Students (EELS) program engages selected high school juniors and seniors each school year to work with the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association through workshops and other programs to learn skills and about resources to help them provide environmental education programs at venues (libraries, YMCAs, schools, etc.) in their hometown communities to kids and families.
The program is currently accepting applicants, which are typically high school juniors and seniors who have an aptitude in nature/ecology and an excitement for environmental education, for this school year's (2023-24) EELS program. Please note that we will consider younger students if they demonstrate proper maturity and leadership. The program will include two introductory workshop training programs and then we will help students set up their own programs in their hometown communities using some of our resources.
Since we consider these students an extension of our programming, we take time to review each applicant ahead of time by reviewing resumes, checking references and doing interviews when possible.
The first workshop is an overview of environmental education, what to expect, what tools we have available at our disposal, etc., is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the Montour Preserve Educational Center in Montour County.
If you/your student is interested in applying for the EELS program, please fill out the following form:
