Eight years ago, my daughter Paige had her first experience in a kayak. She was equal parts excited and nervous, but within minutes was paddling all over the small lake at our family's campground near New Columbia, PA. The opportunity opened a whole new world of exploration and remains of our favorite ways to spend time on a warm summer's day As Riverkeeper, my passion is to protect and promote the region's water-based resources, and I need your help. The upcoming 30-hour fundraising blitz known as Raise the Region starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, and runs through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Why is it important to donate via this event? All funds donated to our association during that time via our online funding page go directly to us. In addition, we receive a portion of matching money totaling $150,000 from Blaise Alexander Auto Dealerships.
But wait ... as the infomercials like to suggest ... there is more. Your donations also help make us eligible for numerous cash prize incentives for nonprofits that raise the most money overall, for those that raise the most money in various time slots during the event, those that bring in the most unique donors, and much more. For the full list of Raise the Region prize incentives, click here. The money we receive will go directly into programs dedicated to protecting and promoting the creeks, streams, river and other waterways within the Middle Susquehanna River watershed. This includes engaging polluters, educating the public and connecting the next generation with countless therapeutic opportunities -- such as kayaking -- throughout our outdoor resources. Check out more at our Raise the Region funding page and feel free to spread the word to your network of family, friends and neighbors! Also, don't miss the live broadcast by WNEP television's Ryan Leckey from 5-7 a.m. Thursday morning, where we will be sharing more of our story. Thanks for your help! I look forward to seeing you soon throughout the Middle Susquehanna Watershed!
