Watershed opportunities

Picture
Volunteers take a break after pulling trash from an illegal dump site along Buffalo Creek in Union County.

Groups need support before drying up!

Watershed associations provide critical boots-on-the-ground support for streams and other tributaries that feed into the Susquehanna River.

Volunteers through these associations pick up tons of litter, restore streambanks, connect landowners to important resources, create riparian buffers, offer community education opportunities and serve as watchdogs for threats of potential pollution.

Unfortunately, despite countless success stories from our greater watershed, many of these groups are drying up as volunteer pools age out, are impacted by health issues or lose streams of necessary funding.

Learn more about the benefits and needs of these groups via this feature story: Community watershed groups offer essential benefits to our waterways, but need fresh volunteers, support - Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper

You can get involved by using our database of active watershed groups listed below.

We also encourage watershed associations to share their success stories with Riverkeeper John Zaktansky, and the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association will help amplify those successes in an attempt to drum up more interest and resources.
