HERYN June 20, 2025 (Day 2): Participants expand skills in fishing, kayaking and conservation6/20/2025 Unlike most participants of the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association HERYN (Helping Engage our River's Youth with Nature) kayaking and fishing day camp, 12-year-old Danville resident Isaac Bankert already had quite a bit of fishing experience before the program. But that didn't stop him from learning. "I fished often and kayaked rarely, but now I want to do both all the time," he said, adding that one of his favorite parts of the day was learning better ways to fish, tie new knots and cast. "It was the best camp ever!" In addition to fishing and kayaking, participants also learn about watersheds and things they can do at home to improve water quality, like "stop using chemicals on the lawn," Bankert said.
"I love that this is available and that both my kids were able to participate," said Heather Smouse, of Lewisburg. "A fantastic program!" added Katrina DuRussell, of Milton. "There was so much I noticed that was positive in just a very few minutes." Some photos from this program day:
