Susquehanna Stewards

Picture
The Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association covers the Middle Susquehanna watershed, an 11,000-square mile region of land represented by light blue in the map above and which includes all the land, streams, creeks and other waterways that feed into the North and West branches (and upper main stem) of the Susquehanna River.

On the map: 1. Our Riverkeeper, John Zaktansky, works out of the association office at 112 Market Street, Sunbury. Find out more about him by clicking here. 2. Our association board president, Kathy Snavely, lives in Lebanon County. 3. Our association board vice president, Dr. Joseph Simons, lives near Kingston. 4. Our association board secretary/treasurer Ann Fisher lives near Selinsgrove. 5. Association board member John Oast lives in Bloomsburg. 6. Association board member Jolene Connelly lives in Selinsgrove. For more details about our board of directors, click here. The additional green circles on the map above represent our Susquehanna Stewards.

What are Riverkeeper's Susquehanna Stewards?

Because our region is so massive in size and we want to have realistic, lasting impacts in each area of our greater watershed, we are looking to add volunteer stewards to be the extra eyes and ears of our association. They already have a passion for the outdoors, spend lots of time on the water and have connections with valuable resources in the communities they live. They function as contacts for people in their portion of the watershed, help filter information from our association into those regions and help identify important resources in local communities that can help us better protect and promote our river-based resources.

who are the current Susquehanna Stewards?

A. Angie Tuttle, and her husband Eric, are avid outdoorspeople who savor kayaking, fishing and a variety of other activities along our waterways. The duo are actively involved with Patriots Cove, a nonprofit that helps connect veterans with the therapeutic benefits of our outdoor resources. She can be emailed by clicking here.

B. Lou Anne Gasperine is a retired educator who continues to offer educational program via the PA Farm Bureau's mobile science/ag unit. She is president of the Jersey Shore Educational Foundation and involved with the Pine Creek Preservation Association. Hear more about her via this podcast episode. She can be emailed by clicking here.

Get involved: The Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association is looking to add at least four more Susquehanna Stewards in the general geographic regions represented by the empty green circles above. This includes one in the Williamsport/Lock Haven area, one in the State College area, one in the Clearfield area and at least one in the northern tier portion of our watershed. To be considered for our stewards program, or to report concerns you may have within our watershed, fill out our 2022 Susquehanna Survey and be sure to mention your interest in participating.
